In a significant development, fifteen additional rice facilities received approval for rice exports to Russia. The DPP was successful in obtaining 15 more rice establishments for the purpose of exporting rice to Russia under the direction of Federal Minister NFSR Tariq Bashir Cheema and Zafar Hassan, Secretary MNFSR.
Developments On The Rice Mills
The Department of Plant Protection (DPP) of Pakistan's Ministry of National Food Security and Research has received confirmation from the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance that 15 additional rice mills can now export rice to Russia as recommended following a technical audit by DPP.
This represents a major accomplishment in terms of enhancing exports and the state's overall economy.
Requirements and Benefits
Due to pest infestation in rice, Russia had previously banned rice exports. But in 2021, it was lifted, and only four rice mills that met their quality standards were permitted to export rice from Pakistan to Russia.
In accordance with the guidance document outlined by the Russian Federation for compliance with the SPS requirements for rice exports, the Department of Plant Protection took special measures with the assistance of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) to upgrade 15 additional mills. There are currently 19 Pakistani rice businesses authorized to export rice to the Russian Federation.
The Department of Plant Protection under the MNFSR, working closely with the Ministry of Commerce, was able to increase rice exports to the Russian Federation, which is a significant accomplishment for the Pakistani government.
This is especially good news for the rice farmers of Punjab and Sindh, who will benefit from it.
