Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 26 National Highway projects worth over Rs. 17,500 crores for the Northeast on 31st Oct. in Guwahati.
The Projects
The objectives of the Dibrugarh-Tinsukia-Ledo project are to enhance trade and tourism, boost strategic presence, and bring an interstate connection between Upper Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The Barak Valley will be connected to Mizoram through the Silchar to Lailapur section, promoting socioeconomic development. According to an official statement, NH-515 in the Dhemaji district will enhance connectivity between Arunachal Pradesh and North Assam.
NH-137 will offer a different route to Western Manipur and improve connectivity in the Dima Hasao area. Jogighopa, Assam's Multi-Modal Logistics Park will be facilitated by the Paikan to Guwahati airport section. Furthermore, the building of new bridges will improve trade, tourism, and socioeconomic development in the area in addition to reducing traffic.
Commencement Of Projects
Among others, Mr. Nitin Gadkari has laid the foundation stones for the 4-laning/2-laning with a paved shoulder of the Tinsukia-Makum bypass, at a cost of Rs. 459 crore, the 2-laning with paved shoulder of Bogapani to Golai Gaon with Digboi bypass with a cost of Rs. 357 crore, the 2-laning with paved shoulder of Golai Gaon to Ledo with Margherita-Ledo bypass, with a cost of Rs. 643 crore, the 4-laning of Kandulijan Gaon to Simen Chapori road at a projected cost of Rs. 609 crore, along with the 4-laning of
Simen Chapori to Nagabang Gamsuk road at a cost of Rs. 562 crores which has been projected.
Additionally, the Union Road Transport Minister opened the 4-laning of the Kaliabor Tiniali-Dolabari road, which included building a new 2-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra River on National Highway 715 at a cost of Rs. 837 crore, the 4-laning of the Dokmoka-Loring Thepi road on NH-29, which
would cost of Rs. 266 crore, the 2-laning of Powamara to Bataia, Trinokhal to Mundamala, and Lowarpuwa to Churaibari on NH-8 at a cost of Rs. 167 crore, and the fortifying of the Numaligarh-Khati road on NH-129 at a cost of Rs. 146 crore.
Feats Achieved
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the Union Road Transport Minister's role in dedicating attention to Assam's road infrastructure, stating that the state had never seen the launch of so many road projects in one day. In his speech, Gadkari expressed his support in principle for the proposed ring-road in Guwahati, in response to Sarma's plea for him to take the required action.
Additionally, Sarma asked the Union Road Transport Minister to build an elevated corridor at Kaziranga that would be 32 km long in order to lower the number of wild animal incidents. During his speech, Union Minister Gadkari stated that an elaborate project report would be prepared and that the elevated corridor would soon become a reality. According to an Assam government statement, the Chief Minister expressed the hope that the required actions will be taken to speed up the construction of a tunnel under the Brahmaputra that connects Gohpur on the north bank with Numaligarh on the south bank.
The Union Minister for Road Transport, Gadkari, was contacted by the Chief Minister to request that Rs. 500 crore be set aside from the central fund for the Asom Mala scheme, for which he had reported that Rs. 600 crore had been approved.
