Constituting more than 30% of Myanmar's total agricultural output, beans and pulses are the nation’s second-most-cultivated crop after the production of rice. Myanmar is the second largest global producer of pigeon peas in the world following India. 

Myanmar’s Exports Of Pulses 

According to data released on Friday by the country's Ministry of Commerce, Myanmar exported more than 105,043 tons of pigeon peas (arahar) in the first five months of the 2023–24 fiscal year through next March. 

According to data from the ministry, the Southeast Asian nation made over 91.92 million US dollars from the export of pigeon peas between April 1 and September 15 of this year. Over 790,888 tons of beans and pulses, including pigeon peas, were exported from Myanmar during the time period mentioned. 

According to data from the ministry, Myanmar exported more than 239,537 tons of pigeon peas in fiscal year 2022–2023 and made more than 187.39 million dollars from the export. 

Myanmar's Pulses Production 

The majority of the pigeon pea plantations in Myanmar are mostly located in the Sagaing, Mandalay, and Magway regions, according to the Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize, and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association. Over 400,000 tons of pigeon peas are produced in the Southeast Asian nation each year, with about 200,000 tons being exported to foreign markets, according to the statement. Pigeon peas from Myanmar are primarily exported to India, as well as to Pakistan, Singapore, China, and Bangladesh.
