Effect of this Public Notice: The quantity of 8606 Metric Tonnes Raw Value (MTRV) of raw cane sugar to be exported to United States under TRQ scheme from 01.10.2024 to 30.09.2025 has been notified, was stated by the notification.
A tariff rate quota is essentially an export quota with comparatively low duties. Additional shipments are subject to a higher tariff after the cap is reached.
In October of last year, India decided to keep the export restrictions in place until further orders. The restrictions were first put in place from June 1 to October 31, 2022, and then they were extended for an additional year, until October 31, 2023.
However, sugar exported to the US and the EU under the TRQ quota and concession (CXL) is exempt from the restriction.
Initially, the goal of the sugar export ban was to stabilize domestic sugar prices.
