Amru Rice's (Cambodia) chair and CEO, Song Saran, informed The Post that the organisation had transported 40 tons, or two containers, as its first consignment to serve all of the Shun Fat Supermarkets in the town, which is home to a large population of Cambodians.

Low Export Volume but Enormous Potential

The CEO of City Rice Import Export Co Ltd, Lay Chhun Hour, emphasised the US's enormous potential as a market for fragrant rice from Cambodia, particularly in light of the country's substantial exports of rice from neighbouring Thailand. Chhun Hour estimates that the company ships between 20 and 30 containers to the United States per year, though this number could rise given that Cambodia hasn't yet done a great job of promoting its goods there. 

CRF’s Vision for Expanding Exports

Although Cambodia has historically exported luxury rice to the US, Chan Sokeang, head of Cambodian Rice Federation (CRF), the country's leading organisation for the rice industry, recognized that these exports were small-scale and had not yet reached wider markets. He mentioned that the company had just started exporting to a sizable Asian customer base in California, using help from the regional chamber of industry executives and consulate general to streamline the export procedure.
